Hakim Group was formed out of Imran’s belief that independent opticians deserve comprehensive support without losing their unique identity.
Since its inception, the Group has expanded across the UK, Ireland, and the Channel Islands, offering scalable solutions to help practices thrive in ever-evolving markets.

Hakim Group is redefining optics by pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved by independent opticians and audiologists. Imran currently owns and operates more than 500 practices across the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands and employs over 4000.

His model empowers local teams to deliver clinical excellence and first-class customer experiences - supporting communities to see better, hear better and live better - whilst driving growth through exceptional engagement, loyalty and employee retention.

It all starts with a vision

Having qualified as an optometrist, Imran Hakim opened his first practice, Hakim Opticians, in the family’s hometown of Bolton in 2002. In 2003, the Hakim Group’s first acquisition came, which already had an established patient base and none of the difficulties of a start-up practice. Imran realised the potential of improving on existing practices that weren’t performing to their potential. The seed of an idea was sown.  In 2006, the Hakim Group was officially formed.

Independent Opticians Reinvented

Imran developed a hybrid approach of maintaining the local brand and providing additional resources through a head office engine room, instituting the Hakim Group brand concept ‘Independent Opticians Reinvented’. The Hakim Group want to redefine optics by changing the boundaries of what can be achieved by independent practices.

Serving a diverse patient community while maintaining local character

Practices are welcomed into the Hakim Group family, built up of like-minded people to deliver outstanding customer experiences tailored to their own community needs. Each practice retains its unique flavour and individuality, that sacred ingredient which makes it an independent, whilst enjoying the buying benefits and a back-office support system that are traditionally enjoyed only by the multiples. This makes the practice much more competitive in the marketplace.

In 2024, Hakim Group was recognised as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work - it also received a Spotlight Award for best places to work for ethnic minorities – and was recently named Healthcare Business of the Year in the Growing Business Awards.
